From lion dancers to Li Bai: A Chinese Talent show worth waiting for

On 20 May, Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University (BNBU) hosted the Chinese Talent Show, bringing together international students and faculty members to celebrate Chinese language learning and cultural exchange through performances and interactive activities. The university's senior management Prof Guo Haipeng, Dean of the School of General Education, also attended the event.

The programme opened with a traditional lion dance performance, creating a lively festive atmosphere. Students from different Chinese language classes then presented a variety of performances, including Chinese songs, poetry recitation, drama, and dubbing.

Featured performances included recitations of the Tang poem Farewell to a Friend (送友人) by Li Bai, a dubbing performance inspired by Shrek 2, and a stage adaptation of Beauty and the Beast.

Traditional cultural games such as shuttlecock kicking and pitch-pot were also incorporated into the event, offering participants opportunities to experience Chinese cultural traditions in an interactive way. Lucky draw sessions and Dragon Boat Festival-themed gifts further added to the festive atmosphere.

The event provided students with a platform to showcase their language learning achievements and creativity while deepening their understanding of Chinese culture. Through performances and cultural activities, the Chinese Talent Show fostered communication and friendship among students and faculty members, creating memorable experiences at the close of the semester.
