Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University (BNBU), jointly established by Beijing Normal University and Hong Kong Baptist University in 2005, is the first full-scale cooperation in higher education between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong, and the first innovative liberal arts university in the Chinese mainland. It is also a member of the Guangdong high-level university development plan.
The University is situated in Zhuhai, on the coast of the South China Sea and bordering Hong Kong and Macao. Zhuhai is a pivotal city within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and was one of the earliest regions where Chinese and Western cultures converged in modern times.
With English as the medium of instruction, BNBU’s curriculum aligns with international standards, fostering high-calibre academic performance. It offers a comprehensive range of programmes from bachelor’s degrees to post-doctoral studies. BNBU provides education to over 10,000 students across approximately 30 undergraduate programmes in 13 departments, as well as research and taught postgraduate programmes. It comprises seven faculties and schools, including the Faculty of Business and Management, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Science and Technology, the School of Culture and Creativity, the School of AI and Liberal Arts, the School of General Education, and the Graduate School. Upon graduating, BNBU undergraduates will receive bachelor's degree certificates from Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) and graduation certificates from BNBU, while postgraduates will receive degree certificates from HKBU.
The current faculty team of BNBU comes from approximately 40 countries and regions. 100% of lecturers and professors have overseas study or work experience, with nearly 90% holding doctoral degrees. 17 of them have been recognised as world’s top 2% of scientists. Many faculty members hail from world-renowned universities such as Stanford and Harvard.
BNBU has established the Institute for Advanced Study, centred around academicians and their research teams. It also has two postdoctoral research stations (Mathematics, Statistics), along with the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Interdisciplinary Research and Application for Data Science, and the Guangdong Key Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence and Multi-Modal Data Processing, and other research platforms to support its research development. It has entered the global top 1% of the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) in the fields of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences.
BNBU has established close partnerships with nearly 100 renowned universities and educational institutions worldwide. The inauguration of its Boston Center and London Center has further expanded the University’s global outreach. BNBU is committed to nurturing citizens with a strong knowledge of local cultures and a global outlook. Its traditional Chinese courses teach yayue, guqin, Chinese archery and more.
In recent years, over 80% of BNBU graduates have chosen further studies abroad, of whom more than 80% have been admitted to the QS world’s top 100 universities. Nearly 90% of graduates who completed overseas studies have returned to the Chinese mainland, with 60% devoting themselves to the construction and development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Graduates who have found employment are highly favoured by Fortune 500 companies, media and cultural institutions, and government agencies. Some graduates pursuing careers in academic research have been selected for the National High-Level Young Talent Programme. Among the graduates who started their businesses, many have been selected for prestigious lists such as Fortune China’s Most Promising Business Elites Under 40. Some alumni are also making significant contributions to public welfare.
