Prof Yang Jian, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology at Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University (BNBU), has received the IEEE Technical Community on Services Computing (TCSVC) Outstanding Service Award.
The award was presented during the 2026 IEEE World Congress on SERVICES in Australia. Typically awarded to only one recipient worldwide each year, it is one of the highest honours in the field of services computing, recognising Prof Yang’s outstanding leadership, dedication and lasting contributions to the research community.
Prof Yang is an early pioneer in services computing. In 2001, she helped organise the first IEEE workshop on services computing. Two years later, she co-founded the International Conference on Service-Oriented Computing (ICSOC) with Prof Mike Papazoglou. The conference has since become a flagship international forum for researchers in the field.
Over the years, Prof Yang has played an active role in advancing services computing in both China and Australia, working closely with researchers in China and contributing to the development of the field through academic events, summer schools and international conferences. She currently serves as an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Services Computing and as a founding member and Steering Committee Chair of the International Conference on Service Oriented Computing (ICSOC).

Her research has resulted in more than 300 academic publications, with over 14,000 citations and an H-index of 55. She has also received multiple Best Paper Awards at international conferences.
At this year’s IEEE World Congress on SERVICES, Prof Yang delivered a keynote at the International Conference on Web Services (ICWS), sharing her latest research on AI-driven enterprise service architecture under the theme “AI Design and Operation Paradigm: from Functional to Agentic Enterprise”.
