The 14th International Whitehead Conference and Book Launch Ceremony was held at Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University (BNBU) from 17 to 20 July 2026. Themed on process philosophy, science and civilisation, the conference brought together more than 280 scholars, young researchers and practitioners from 33 countries and regions.
BNBU President Prof Chen Zhi addresses the audience at the opening ceremony, pointing out that the conference created a platform for interdisciplinary, intercultural, and intergenerational dialogue, bringing together diverse perspectives to advance research in the humanities and social sciences
A highlight of the conference was the launch of the Chinese edition of The Complete Works of Alfred North Whitehead, jointly funded by Central Compilation & Translation Press and BNBU’s Institute for Advanced Study. Edited by researcher from the Whitehead Research Centre Prof Yang Fubin and Dean of BNBU’s School of General Education and Director of the Whitehead Research Centre Prof Guo Haipeng, the collection is the first complete Chinese translation of Whitehead’s academic works, covering his major writings in mathematics, philosophy and education. It provides Chinese scholars with a comprehensive textual foundation for studying Whitehead’s thought and represents an important contribution to international process philosophy research.

The conference featured keynote presentations and 11 thematic sessions covering topics including AI and the future of humanity, the nature of life, meaning and mental health, ethics and religion, aesthetics and creativity, education and human development, and climate change and ecological civilisation.
The conference was co-organised by the Whitehead Research Centre of BNBU’s Institute for Advanced Study, the Centre for Process Studies and the International Process Network. Its successful conclusion further strengthened BNBU’s role in promoting international dialogue and advancing research in process philosophy and the humanities and social sciences.
