UNSW and BNBU explore educational collaboration

Published on 14 October 2026

A delegation from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) visited Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University (BNBU) on 12 October 2026 to explore opportunities for international educational collaboration and student development.

Prof Michael Sheng, BNBU Associate Vice President (Global Engagement) and a UNSW alumnus, welcomed the delegation and highlighted the potential for collaboration in international education and interdisciplinary research. Possible areas of cooperation include student exchanges, short-term study programmes, joint courses, faculty exchanges and collaborative research.

In a video address, Prof Sarah Maddison, UNSW Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Education and Student Experience, commended BNBU’s commitment to interdisciplinary education and student support. She noted the shared emphasis of the two universities on student-centred learning and combining academic study with practical experience, and invited BNBU faculty and students to visit Sydney.

Representatives from six UNSW faculties introduced their postgraduate programmes and resources for academic and career development. BNBU faculty and students also discussed cross-disciplinary applications, English-language requirements, internship opportunities and postgraduate preparation with the delegation.

The visit aimed to strengthen mutual understanding and lay the groundwork for broader collaboration in teaching, research and talent development, while helping BNBU students explore diverse postgraduate pathways and broaden their international perspectives.
