On 22 May 2026, the Humanities and Social Sciences Research Base (Zhuhai) was inaugurated at Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University (BNBU). The base is jointly established by BNBU's Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Hong Kong Academy of Chinese Studies, and the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) to promote high-level collaborative innovation in the humanities and social sciences.

BNBU Vice President (Academic) and Executive Director of the Institute for Advanced Study Prof Zhou Yongming said: "The establishment of this research base marks a significant step forward for BNBU in promoting collaborative innovation in the humanities and social sciences and deepening regional academic cooperation, with a focus on the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area."

President of the Chinese Institute of Hong Kong of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences , Prof Huang Ping, noted that the joint establishment of a research base for the humanities and social sciences by the three parties would significantly strengthen cross-regional and interdisciplinary collaboration and enable the pooling of strengths. “In future, we can establish close cooperation and continue to promote academic development by regularly organising seminars and forums,” he added.

Vice-President (Research and Development) of HKBU Prof Lyu Aiping emphasised that its establishment not only addresses the urgent need for high-calibre research in the humanities and social sciences arising from the development of the Greater Bay Area, but also provides vital support for the three parties in establishing an institutionalised and regular academic cooperation platform.
