Recently, the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Interdisciplinary Research and Application for Data Science at Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University (BNBU) successfully passed the 2025 evaluation and assessment of provincial key laboratories organised by the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province, marking the recognition of the laboratory’s achievements during its three-year development period.

Approved in 2022, the laboratory is the first provincial key laboratory established at a university in Zhuhai and serves as a major research platform supporting BNBU’s development in data science and the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area. Focusing on interdisciplinary research and applications in data science and technology, the laboratory integrates strengths in statistics, mathematics, and computer science to advance foundational research and cross-disciplinary innovation.
Led by Prof Pan Jianxin, Vice President (Research and Development) of BNBU and Director of the laboratory, the research platform has well established its structure and brought together scholars and researchers from diverse fields. It has aligned its research with national strategies and regional development needs, actively supporting technological innovation and digital transformation in the Greater Bay Area.
