Professor Zeng Tieyong, Changjiang Chair Professor of the Ministry of Education, Director of the Centre for Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence of the Institute for Advanced Study at Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University (BNBU), and Chief Scientist of Huawei's industrial projects. He obtained a Bachelor of Mathematics degree from Peking University in 2000, a Master of Mathematics degree from École Polytechnique in 2004, and a Doctor of Mathematics degree from Université Paris XIII in 2007.
He has served as Assistant Professor and Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Hong Kong Baptist University, and subsequently as Associate Professor, Professor, and Director of the Center for Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Currently, he holds the position of Dean of the School of Mathematics and Statistics at Guangzhou Nanfang College.
Professor Zeng's main research areas include Numerical Optimisation Algorithms, Image Processing, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning. He has published more than 200 academic papers in total. In 2021, he was awarded the Young Scholar Award by the Hong Kong Mathematical Society. Professor Zeng was listed in the Stanford-Elsevier Top 2% Scientists Global Ranking 2025.
He has presided over a number of national-level research projects, including special funds from the Ministry of Science and Technology's Key R&D Programme, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong, and the Innovation and Technology Commission of Hong Kong. Meanwhile, he serves as member of the editorial boards of several academic journals such as Pattern Recognition.
