Synopsis

A recent pedagogical approach to restructuring classroom interactions is the “flipped” classroom. In this model, interactive content is delivered to students online prior to the face-to-face classroom session, allowing more time for student-centred interactions during class time. In addition, the instructor takes on the role of facilitator to the students’ learning process rather than the source of knowledge. This workshop will present the flipped classroom pedagogy to enable participants to effectively implement this style of teaching in their own course. Participants will have the opportunity to work in a group and design a flipped classroom activity with pre-selected videos and explore the benefits to students who are engaged in this pedagogy.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

1) describe the main pedagogical process in ‘Flipped Classroom’,

2) plan in-class activities to engage students with flipped content; and

3) identify the benefits to students in terms of skills and attitude in their learning

A light lunch will be served.
