We are very honoured to invite internationally acclaimed mathematician, Zhang Yitang (张益唐), to give us a distinguished lecture titled “My Pursuit of Mathematics (我对数学的追求)”.
Zhang Yitang is a friend of our President, Professor Tang Tao. President Tang once wrote a feature story on Zhang’s life and time, which was published in

About the Speaker:
Zhang Yitang is a Chinese-born American mathematician working in the area of number theory. He is best known for making an important breakthrough in Number Theory by solving the Twin Prime Conjecture (pairs of prime numbers that differ by two).
Zhang received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in mathematics at Peking University, before obtaining a PhD at Purdue University in the US in 1991. While working for the University of New Hampshire as a lecturer, Zhang submitted an article to the Annals of Mathematics in 2013, which established the first finite bound on the least gap between consecutive primes that is attained infinitely often. This work led to a 2014 MacArthur award and his appointment as a professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Zhang was awarded the 2013 Morningside Special Achievement Award in Mathematics, the 2013 Ostrowski Prize, the 2014 Frank Nelson Cole Prize in Number Theory, and the 2014 Rolf Schock Prize in Mathematics. Zhang was elected as an Academia Sinica Fellow in 2014. In the same year, he was invited to be a speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians.
